11 Free Books from the Amazon Kindle Store

Here’s something a little different, and is something I have thought of doing with the content of my other blogs (but who the heck has enough time these days?): Amazon has released 11 daily calendars for free this morning in the Kindle store.  Perusing a couple of them, they appear very similar to the paper tear-off calendars many of us have or receive as gifts; some of them are quite funny from the ones I looked at this morning.

I imagine several of these will look great on the Kindle Fire which will be in a lot of our hands next week – while you may not have your Kindle Fire today, it might be a good idea to grab the ones with cartoons in them now as there is no guarantee they will be available for free next week.  Just grab it now, and when the Fire is in your hands add it to the Fire’s library.  As usual, I don’t know how long these will be offered for free so if you are interested in any or all of them please grab them now. Here they are, in no particular order:

Here is the book’s description form the Amazon website:

Cops are the people who see and hear it all. They work at one of the world’s most dangerous jobs, but it’s also one of the most entertaining. When their lives are at risk and even when they aren’t cops encounter constant weirdness and stupidity in human behavior. The Funniest Cop Stories Ever collects the strangest, most amusing stories about stupid crooks, bungled crimes, and station-house banter. A true look at what life is like behind the badge, the tales in The Funniest Cop Stories Ever were collected by real-life ex-New York City policeman Scott Baker and coauthor Tom Philbin. Anecdotes are told by the real-life cops who experienced them and include:

A foot chase after a dwarf who karate-kicked his girlfriend’s door and assaulted her while wearing a tuxedo and carrying a violin case.

A beggar who ended people’s pay phone calls so he could demand their extra spare change.

A narcotics bust on a guy who claimed the crack cocaine and his pants didn’t belong to him.

Here is the book’s description from the Amazon website:

When a talented new player joins the perennially-losing sub-minor-league hockey team, the Fighting Aardvarks, it marks the beginning of a winning tradition. But things aren’t as they seem, and players begin to change. First line center Hammie learns the truth: the Aardvarks are becoming vampires, and it’s up to him to stop them before the infestation spreads beyond just the team.

“Healy’s snickering, boyish humor is a highlight of this novel—from the characters’ postmodern comments on vampiric pop culture to the hockey teammates’ constant good-natured trash talking to the wry snarkiness of the “narrator” (a lovely twist as to the identity of the narrator I won’t spoil for you, but wait for the delightful punchline) pull us through this story with tight action and a keen series of cliffhanger chapter endings.”–Jenn Zuko, Nerds in Babeland

Whether you’re sitting in the cubes or in the corner office, working the counter or bussing the tables, WTF? provides an employee handbook that’s actually worth reading.
